About the Barbershop of Iberia Association (BIBA)

Barbershop singing was introduced to Spain in 2008 with the formation of the Spanish Association of Barbershop Singers (SABS). Only six months after being officially recognized as a cultural association, SABS oranized its first En Armonía convention, attracting 150 people for a weekend of singing and learning about barbershop onthe Costa Blanca in June 2009.

Barbershop singing had arrived, and SABS advanced its development by encouraging the formation, education, and performances of national choruses and quartets.

As barbershop activity expanded across the Iberian Peninsula, including Portugal, the association’s scope grew beyond its original national focus. In April 2023, the Board of Directors approved a transition to an Iberian identity, formally establishing the Barbershop in Iberia Association (BIBA) to better represent its members and activities in both Spain and Portugal.

BIBA supports barbershop singing by offering its members opportunitites to perform and compete, learn from expert educators, and engage in community events. These include Harmony College, the association’s annual educational event, and En Armonía, its flagship convention, which has become a recognized gathering point for the barbershop community.

The association’s logo, designed by BIBA member Jordi Forcadell, reflects the shape of the Iberian Peninsula and represents the regions in which BIBA operates.

Enthusiasm for barbershop singing and a driving energy to share it have been hallmarks of the association from the beginning. They continue to propel BIBA and its growth today

Our Foundations

The development of barbershop in Iberia was made possible by the work of the association’s founders, who in 2008 established the organizational framework that continues today.

The founding members pictured at the first board meeting of SABS are: Nico de las Peñas, Roger Gallant, Lyn Baines, Tony Colgrave, Ángel Rodríguez, and Dudley Jones

Their contributions are an important part of BIBA's history, ane their legacy lives on in every chord we sing.
